AFF Cup: Laos Vow To Give 110% Against Malaysia
Laos team manager Niwat Klaysang promises that his chargers will put in more than 100% when they open their campaign in Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 against Malaysia tomorrow.
Niwat said at the pre-match press conference this afternoon in Phuket that training away from home has put the players in a good frame of mind as they prepare to score an upset against the Malaysians.
Since the end of the AFF Suzuki Cup qualifiers last month, Laos have been hard at work with club Hong Anh Gia Lai (HAGL).
"The first match will be very important and all that I can promise is that when we play against Malaysia, my players will put in more than 100% in the game," said Niwat, who will have seven players from the SEA Games squad last year.
"I don't think that we will play it defensive as I believe that we will be going for goals."
In the meantime B. Sathianathan, the head coach of Malaysia, deflected the spotlight heaped on him by saying that his concentration would be fully on how his team will perform.
He said that there is no point in emphasising on the strength and weaknesses of the other teams when focus should be on his boys.
"I have maintained all along that there will be no easy games in this tournament," added Sathianathan, who was also reminded of the defeat Laos scored against Malaysia at the SEA Games in 1997.
"Every team is very well prepared tournament and we have to be prepared for anything."
